Sorry, but the site is temporarily down due to a server failure (and my failure to read a redundant hardware failure warning email correctly.)
I've ordered the replacement fan and it should be here in a couple days and the site will be back up.
(Yes - a fan to cool the 12 SCSI dirves. There are 3 hard-drives fans, 2 required to be working for it to run. I misread the email notification that the 1st of 3 had failed, so when the 2nd fan failed the server shut itself down.)
All the photos on this site can be seen at http://photopost.jeff-owen.com, which what this site will look like in the (hopefully) near future. The navigation is easier and more clear, the look updated and you can make comments and help ID people, places in the photos. Any and all comments are welcome!

I've posted a copy of a video tape of old home movies that (I believe) Tom Underwood had transferred to video tape. I haven't had time to do any restoration (and it could certainly use it) but you can see it at Owen Family Movies - 1959 thru 1972.
Nancy Starling was kind enough to loan me an old photo album of Almeda's which is now scanned and can be found in Gallery 24 - Old Starling Album. The album contains many pictures of Gary as a baby and small child (his first picture, his first birthday party, etc.) and lots of photos of Almeda, Gayland, Asia, Lena, and many others.
One of the great things about this album is that Almeda captioned almost all the photos so the people, places, and dates are more often than not identified. The captions also show what a great sense of humor Almeda had. Many of the captions are a real hoot!"
Nancy also loaned me 6 reels of 16mm home movies that grandfather (Asia) had taken. Phil Rowe (a good friend, movie buff and film maker who also happens to have a 16mm projector) and I watched the movies recently one evening and they're wonderful. The film for the most part is in excellent shape (only one reel has started to deteriorate and needs preservation very soon).
The movies contain some great family moments (Uncle Vic's championship basketball team, some clips of folks just goofing off, golfing at the old Chesterhill golf course... sand greens and all!). Much of the film is Kodacrome color and the colors are unbeliveably bright and clear. I'm in the process of trying to get these movies (there's about an hour altogether) transferred to video or DVD. I'll keep everyone posted on the progress.
Along the line of movies and video... I've upgraded the streaming media server with new hardware and Windows 2003 server. I think you'll find that the movies play much more consistently (less pauses etc.).
That's about it for now. The current project is to get the 6 reels of movies preserved. If I remember correctly, Nancy told me there are lots more where these first 6 came from (yikes!)
First off I've finished scanning last half of the pages from the old photo album (pages 45-73). The photo album pages are in Gallery 21 - Sycamore Valley Stash - Old Photo Album.
I've also added a few new features to the “slide” pages:
I've added a search feature to the photo galleries. You can search the filename, gallery name, caption, and comments. So if you're looking for a particular picture or person this should help. It will work even better as more folks are indentifed in the pictures and as comments are added (by you!)
The search results can be sorted by filename, gallery, caption, and photo ID (the order in which the pictures were added). To sort click the underlined column title. Click the column title again to reverse the sort order.
If you want all pictures just leave the search text blank (empty). The search results include a small thumbnail of the image as a quick preview. Just click on the “Jump to Slide” button to see a larger image. Use the browser "back" button to return to the search results. Give it a try...
The particular Owen family that we're referring to is:
Mom & Dad...
Us kids...
and our kids...
and Alice who has always been there.
